California CNAs License Requirements
California CNAs must obtain forty-eight (48) hours of
in-service or continuing education within a two-year certification period. A minimum of twelve (12) of
the forty-eight (48) hours must be completed each year. A maximum of twenty-four (24) hours may be
completed through a CDPH-approved online training program.
All courses must
be taken through a provider approved by the California Department of Public
Health (CDPH) Training Program Review Unit (TPRU).

Renewal Process
· Complete CE Hours: Finish the required 48 hours of in-service training or continuing education, ensuring you meet the yearly and online limits.
· Gather Documentation: Collect certificates or other proof of completion for your courses.
· Complete Renewal Form: Fill out the renewal application form (CDPH 283C), indicating the number of completed in-service or continuing education hours.
· Submit Application: Submit the completed form to the CDPH.
· Keep Records: Maintain copies of your certificates and course documentation for four years in case of an audit.

· CDPH-Approved Providers: Only courses from CDPH-approved providers count towards your CE requirements.
